Mitochondrial Health

Think of mitochondria as the batteries that keep us alive.

The mitochondria are considered to be the powerhouse of the cell.

The human body runs off of a substance called  adenosine triphosphate. ATP is our energy currency, without it, we die.

Now, the cells will take food, water, and oxygen and create ATP, that energy currency in the mitochondria of the cell. Our cells will replicate to perfect cells when we were young, but as we age and the cells become damaged, they then replicate into further damaged cells.

The question becomes, how do we prevent mitochondrial dysfunction?

Making our mitochondria more efficient.

To revisit, mitochondria produces ATP which is our energy currency. Without ATP, adenosine triphosphate, we die. That makes mitochondrial dysfunction one of the hallmarks of aging.

If we can make the mitochondria more efficient it will increase our health span.

First we need to address the cell danger response mechanism.  We can do this through diet, stress relief and removal of external toxins. Mitochondria in cell danger response mode produce less ATP because they’re fighting off the external toxins.

Then we make the mitochondria more resilient through hormetic stressors... fasting, cold, heat, breath, and exercise.

In upcoming videos, I’m going to put together a program for myself to train my mitochondria, and then over time we’ll see how it works.
