MY ROAD TO 70... AND BEYOND

I gave myself five physical challenges to try to accomplish as I turn 70. They are directly related to wanting to stay healthy. I always want to be able to play with my grandchildren. The individual videos on this page talk about the areas of fitness I am working on to achieve these goals. These videos show my progression over the last half year.

What does YOUR road look like? I’d love it if you shared where your journey will take you... let’s all get where we want to go, together in this community of ours.

ROPE FLOW

Rope Flow is great for the mind and body. You can do it sitting or standing. I do it in all of my classes with my students, and it allows the body to move the way it’s supposed to move.

Watch my progression on these two videos.

DEEP SQUAT

The deep squat should be a natural resting position. The problem is you and I sat down for 40 or 50 years, and now we no longer have the ability to get into a deep squat. On my Road to 70 and Beyond, I want to be able to get into a deep squat restfully and hang out with my grandkids. Check out these videos!

VO2 MAX CAPACITY

VO2 max is the amount of oxygen you can get to your muscles. Think of going up a flight of stairs and maybe you’re out of breath. We don’t want to get to the point where walking up a flight of stairs brings our heart rate to a maximum level. There are three ways I’ve been working to build up my aerobic capacity. Watch to learn more.

BALANCE

Soon our annual physicals will include balance testing. We are going to be asked to stand on one leg for 30 seconds. Then one leg for 10 seconds, with eyes closed, which is very difficult. Some doctors are already doing this.

Challenge yourself with the balance challenge!

TURKISH GET UP

Now, why would you want to do something like this? For me, I’m looking at strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, mobility, and bone density. It does require getting up and down from the floor, so this is not for everybody.

The second video has assistance exercises.
